Young New Englanders visit Taunton For over 40 years American and English young people have made exchange visits to each others country hosted by the Rotary Clubs of Taunton England and Taunton Massachusetts. Molly Desrocherers and Carolan Kelly were the most recent visitors who enjoyed being hosted by Rotary Club members and former exchange students. Not only did they visit London, Stratford-upon-Avon, Bath and Somerset treasures such as Dunster Castle and the castle Museum, they were also given a taste of life in the south west, milking cows at Chedzoy farm, riding in the Quantocks and an unforgettable ‘sleep over’ in a cave on Dartmoor. Both Molly and Kelly are university students. Molly studies medicine and philosophy and Carolan business studies. Molly's ancestors include a Black Foot Indian great grandmother, French Canadian grandfather and Carolan too has a rich ancestral history of émigrés from Ireland and Poland. Both girls have been life time friends from the age of 8 years. Both love keeping fit and enjoy sport. Molly confessed that she wouldn’t have made the journey without Carolan. Carolan’s ambition is to travel. Both girls declared that Carolan was the adventurous one and pushing Molly to be more adventurous was all part of the friendship and the fun. When asked what was most surprising about England both girls agreed that seeing animals in the fields was very novel and not like the USA, where there was so much more factory farming. They also confessed that the Rotary Club was not as stuffy as they had expected and were surprised how young at heart all their hosts had been. You can come again! If you are 18-23 years old and interested in visiting the USA next year, get in touch with the Rotary Club of Taunton. CONTACT: Chris Cutting 07766404490
